Hanania Travel owner jeered by prospective Umrah pilgrims as he is escorted to Criminal Investigation Directorate building

JAKarta — Ahmad Syah Farhan, owner of Hanania Travel, was jeered by prospective Umrah pilgrims as he emerged from the integrated police service center (SPKT) at Jakarta metropolitan police headquarters on Thursday evening (28 May 2026).

Farhan, dressed in a black T-shirt, long pants, and glasses, was accompanied by officers from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of Jakarta metropolitan police when he left the SPKT at approximately 7:45pm WIB. Dozens of pilgrims who had just filed police reports under report number LP/B/3825/V/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA followed him.

A woman approached Farhan to ask when she would get her money back, but he remained silent and avoided eye contact. He also refused to comment when questioned by journalists, looking down and turning away to avoid further inquiries.

Farhan was then escorted on a motorcycle by police officers to the Criminal Investigation Directorate building for further questioning. As the motorcycle drove towards the building, the pilgrims continued shouting at him.

Budi, in a written statement, confirmed that Jakarta metropolitan police received a report on 28 May 2026 regarding suspected Umrah travel fraud involving Hanania Travel. The complainants allege they paid for Umrah trips that never materialised, with the first batch, the Syawal group, scheduled to depart for Mecca in March-April 2026.

“ The defendant is being investigated under suspected violations of sections 492, 486, and 607 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP),” Budi added.
