JAKARTA - Director of Hanania Travel Ahmad Syah Farhan has been detained at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention Centre after being named a suspect in an alleged umrah fraud case.

Based on the investigation, ASF was designated as a suspect on 29 May 2026.

“Pursuant to this, the individual has been detained at the Polda Metro Jaya Detention and Evidence Directorate Facility,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Police Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Saturday (30 May 2026).

“Regarding the complaint from complainant JSP, the case has moved to the investigation stage. Investigators have examined 33 witnesses from the complainants and registered victims,” said Budi.

He added that the complaint from JSP involved approximately 128 victims and total losses of Rp12.145 billion. Victims had paid for umrah travel packages to Hanania Travel but were not dispatched as per the promised schedule.

In addition to JSP’s complaint, Polda Metro Jaya also received another report from complainant NN regarding the umrah departure for two individuals. In this case, the victims had paid approximately Rp78.8 million for the umrah package but were not dispatched as scheduled. This report remains under investigation.

Investigators are currently finalising the case file, including witness testimonies, suspect statements, and other evidence. Police are also probing whether other parties are involved in the case.

The applicable charges include alleged fraud, embezzlement, and money laundering under Articles 492, 486, and 607 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) Law No. 1 of 2023.

The Hanania Travel case emerged after hundreds to thousands of prospective umrah pilgrims failed to be dispatched to the Holy Land from the Syawal period in March-April 2026 through the June and July 2026 batches. Several pilgrims reported having settled travel fees by late 2025, with some even receiving visas, luggage, and umrah equipment weeks before the scheduled departure.
