Hanania Travel cancels Umrah departures as pilgrims demand Rp 260 million refunds
Umrah applicants whose departures have been cancelled by Hanonia Travel are demanding refunds for the payments they made for their trips. The pilgrims have already paid tens to hundreds of millions of rupiah to settle their bookings for the Syawal (March 2026) andJune-JJuly 2026 departure groups. According to several applicants interviewed by Kompas.com at Hanania Travel’s South Jakarta branch, nearly Rp 260 million in Umrah fees has been fully paid to the company.
Ifa submitted her refund request on 16 March, shortly after the cancellation of the Syawal departure group was announced. “I filed my refund request on 16 March, but they said it would take 14 working days. From 16 March, 14 working days would mean the deadline was 6 April,” she said during an interview at Hanonia Tower in Eighty Eight Building, Kota Kasablanka mall (Kokas), South Jakarta, on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
Ifa visited Hanonia Tower on 6 April 2026 to follow up on the promised refund, but staff only told her that the refund would be communicated later. They also requested an additional two-week extension for mediation involving the travel agency owner, the stranded pilgrims, and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. During mediation, it was revealed that Farhan, the Umrah travel agency owner, and his associates could not settle refunds in one go. “They said it would be paid in three instalments: 30%, 30%, and 40%, with the first payment deadline set for 29 May,” Ifa said.
However, in recent days, Ifa has seen social media posts on Threads suggesting the refund would be delayed. She visited Hanania Travel’s branch on Thursday afternoon to hear directly from owner Farhan. As of Thursday afternoon, she had not received the 30% refund she was owed.
