Hanania Travel Boss Named Suspect After Failing to Send Umrah Pilgrims Due to Alleged Flight Ticket Issues
Police have named the boss of Hanania Travel, Ahmad Syah Farhan (ASF), as a suspect in an Umrah travel fraud case. The suspect claimed that the failure to depart for the Holy Land was due to changes in flight ticket prices.
“Firstly, regarding the changes in flight tickets. One of the reasons provided by the suspect was the existence of delays or changes to the flight tickets. This is what the suspect stated,” said the Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference at the Metro Jaya Regional Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
However, Iman stated that investigators did not immediately accept this excuse. Upon further investigation, facts emerged showing that the pilgrims’ money was used for purposes unrelated to the planned departures.
“Naturally, investigators are basing their findings on the facts of the investigation regarding how the funds collected by PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional were used—whether they were used for interests outside of the pilgrims’ departure,” said Iman. “We are strictly following the legal facts obtained during the investigation process, even though one of the reasons provided was related to flight tickets.”
Police revealed that the funds from the Umrah pilgrims were used for purposes other than the pilgrimage. Iman noted that part of the money was used to pay several influencers to promote Umrah packages.
Following the investigation, the Metro Jaya Regional Police have officially designated the boss of Hanania Travel, Ahmad Syah Farhan, as a suspect in the alleged fraud and/or embezzlement of Umrah travel funds. Farhan, who serves as the President Director of PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional, is now officially in custody.
“ASF was named a suspect on 29 May 2026. Subsequently, the individual has been detained at the Detention and Evidence Directorate of the Metro Jaya Regional Police,” said the Head of Public Relations at Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Saturday (30/5).
Ahmad Syah Farhan faces charges of alleged fraud, embezzlement, and/or money laundering under Article 492 of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code, and/or Articles 486 and 607 of the Criminal Code. Budi added that the police have received two reports regarding Hanania Travel, with victims numbering in the dozens and total losses amounting to Rp 12.14 billion.
