Hanania Travel Agents Report to Metro Jaya Police, Claiming Losses of Tens of Billions of Rupiah
Rahmat Gumilar, a representative of Teras Hanania from Majalengka, stated that they are reporting Hanania Travel to the Metro Jaya Police following significant losses amounting to tens of billions of rupiah, as pilgrims who registered through agents failed to depart for their trips. ‘We will report the alleged fraud due to the failure of pilgrims to depart,’ Rahmat explained at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters in South Jakarta on Tuesday.
Rahmat noted that a total of 85 Hanania Travel agents from across Indonesia visited the police station. As agents, they act as intermediaries, collecting registration fees from pilgrims and forwarding them to Hanania Travel. Rahmat estimated the losses incurred by the agents alone to be between Rp 15 billion and Rp 20 billion, with individual agent losses ranging from Rp 200 million to Rp 300 million due to investments in offices and staff salaries.
While the Teras Hanania partnership operated without issue in 2025, problems emerged in early 2026 when departures became uncertain. Despite promises from Hanania Travel that trips would proceed, the director reportedly ceased communication with the agents. The agents discovered the situation after learning of other reports filed by pilgrims. The total estimated loss, encompassing both agents and approximately 1,000 pilgrims, is estimated at Rp 51 billion, with pilgrims’ funds accounting for Rp 31 billion.
In a related development, the Metro Jaya Police have officially named the head of Hanania Travel, Ahmad Syah Farhan (ASF), as a suspect in the alleged fraud and/or embezzlement of Umrah travel funds. Farhan, the President Director of PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional, has been detained. Police spokesperson Kombes Budi Hermanto confirmed that Farhan was named a suspect following an investigation and is currently held at the Metro Jaya Police detention centre. He faces charges related to fraud, embezzlement, and potential money laundering under the Indonesian Criminal Code.
