Hamzah's visit to Libya canceled
JAKARTA: Vice President Hamzah Haz's plan to visit Libya,
scheduled for the end of this month, has been canceled
indefinitely, an official said on Thursday.
La Ode Kamaluddin, a member of the Vice President's special
staff, said the cancellation was made due to the heated political
situation in the world following the U.S.-led military attacks in
Afghanistan.
The visit has not been rescheduled, La Ode said, adding that
Hamzah had planned to visit Libya on the invitation of Libyan
leader Moamar Khadafi, and would represent President Megawati
Soekarnoputri.
Khadafi's invitation was made when an Indonesian delegation
led by AM Fatwa visited Libya in August 2001. -- Antara
