Hamzah, Taufik make no commitment
JAKARTA: The United Development Party (PPP)'s deputy chairman Alimarwan Hanan denied rumors that the PPP would be in favor of retaining the team of President Megawati Soekarnoputri and Vice President Hamzah Haz for another term.
He added that the party's position would depend on the results of the general election on April 5.
"We have yet to make a commitment," he said on Tuesday.
Following a closed-door meeting between PPP chairman Hamzah Haz and Taufik Kiemas, the husband of President Megawati, rumors emerged that the PPP had made a deal with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Megawati's party.
He said that Hamzah and Taufik only met to discuss how stability could best be maintained during the elections. -- Antara
