Hamzah sworn in as 'president'

SURABAYA: United Development Party (PPP) chief Hamzah Haz
could not say no when his supporters asked him to sit down and be
sworn in as the new "president" of the republic.

Habib Idrus Jamalulail swore Hamzah in before thousands of
supporters attending a campaign rally at Pancasila sports
stadium.

All eyes were on the stage as Hamzah repeated the oath. The
ceremony ended with Jamalulail draping a green scarf around
Hamzah's neck and congratulating him on his inauguration.

The "president" addressed the crowd for a few minutes before
stepping off the stage. To his supporters' surprise, he made no
mention of his inauguration, Antara reported.
