Hamzah says he is mere 'security guard'

BATAM: Hamzah Haz, leader of the United Development Party (PPP), complained on Wednesday that he had only been a "security guard" as vice president in the Megawati Soekarnoputri regime.

"I'm like a security guard who is tasked only with observing and overseeing the running of the (Megawati) government, while at the same time, I cannot do anything to bring the government on track," he addressed a crowd of PPP supporters in Sengkuang, Batam.

Hamzah asked supporters and the people of Batam to vote for the PPP in order to enable the party to gain majority votes in the upcoming election and so be able to govern the country.

He promised to build a prosperous Indonesia once the PPP won the election and he was elected president of Indonesia. -- JP
