Hamzah Haz's concern
Hamzah Haz's concern
There is deep concern in the heart of Vice President Hamzah
Haz which could not be concealed. It is the condition of this
nation. Although some 90 percent of its people are Moslems, and
it is rich in natural resources, it still faces many crises.
He said he feels restless over the multidimensional crisis
that has resulted in a poor economy, decreasing morale, violence
and others, including the practices of corruption, collusion and
nepotism.
Hamzah's feeling is shared by many. As the most populous
Moslem nation, the progress or the decline of this nation depends
much on the quality of Moslems.
At a certain level, the struggle of Moslem organizations has
achieved progress. Unfortunately however, this has yet to be
coupled with public welfare.
Hamzah's concern is also ours, and it should not stop with
statements. The Islam that we believe is the solution to all
problems, should encourage us to succeed as good human beings. We
should not be human beings who merely accept and see changes.
Hasn't Islam taught us that today must be better than yesterday?
Moslems consist the majority of this nation, but where are
they? -- Republika, Jakarta
