Hamzah Batik Malioboro Jogja Hit by Fire, Flames Extinguished

A fire has struck the Hamzah Batik souvenir centre, located in the Malioboro area of Yogyakarta. The flames have since been extinguished.

“It has just happened,” stated the Yogyakarta City Fire Department call centre when contacted at 06:42 WIB on Monday (28/09/2026).

The fire occurred in the early hours of this morning. Officials reported that the flames were successfully put out within three hours. This information was also shared by the Yogyakarta Fire Department via their Instagram account.

“Extinguishment completed after 3 hours. Thank you to all elements that fought the fire,” wrote the Yogyakarta Fire Department.

Officers received the fire report at 01:36 WIB. A total of 14 firefighting units were deployed to tackle the blaze.

“From the Yogyakarta City Fire Department, 7 units were dispatched. Assistance was received from 7 other units, including: 2 units from Bantul Fire Department, 1 unit from Sleman Fire Department, 1 unit from UGM Fire Department, 1 unit from Hasamindo Redkar Sleman, 1 unit from the Yogyakarta Police Barracuda, and 1 water tank from the Kodim,” said the Yogyakarta Fire Department call centre.
