Hamas welcomes Trump's statement on Gaza peace plan

Hamas has welcomed a statement by United States President Donald Trump calling on Israel to immediately halt its attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Hamas also urged Trump to press Israel to proceed with the second phase of the conflict resolution plan, said Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem on Monday.

“Hamas welcomes the statement by US President Donald Trump, who called on Israel to stop its attacks on Gaza. This confirms President Trump’s commitment to the ceasefire,” Qassem said.

Trump had earlier called on Israel to immediately cease its attacks on Gaza while reiterating the need to continue efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement.

The statement was made amid negotiations to move to the next stage of the Gaza peace plan.

The agreement includes a ceasefire, the release of hostages held in Gaza in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners, increased humanitarian aid, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces.

However, the agreement remains incomplete, as the two sides continue to dispute the sequence of the next steps.

Israel demands that Hamas be disarmed before any further troop withdrawal, while Hamas insists that Israeli attacks must stop first, Israeli forces withdraw, and humanitarian aid be delivered.
