Hamas to participate in Palestinian legislative elections in November 2026

Hamas has stated that it will participate in the Palestinian legislative elections in November 2026. “We are working with many Palestinian factions to form an electoral bloc that includes various segments of the Palestinian people,” said Hossam Badran, head of Hamas’s National Relations Office and a member of the group’s political bureau, in an interview with local television station Al-Aqsa TV. Badran said Hamas would obstruct any attempt to restructure the national political system that excludes the group. President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree on 9 July, setting 28 November as the date for legislative elections to select members of the Palestinian Legislative Council, the unicameral legislative body of the Palestinian National Authority.
