The Hamas group has reportedly sent a secret letter to Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, whilst Tehran is engaged in military confrontation with the United States and Israel. The letter hints at potential support for Iran in its escalating confrontation with Washington and Tel Aviv.

The letter contrasts sharply with the public statement issued by Hamas on Saturday 14 March, which called on Iran not to target Gulf nations in its retaliatory strikes.

According to Israeli media outlet KAN News, as reported by The Times of India and Jerusalem Post on Tuesday 17 March 2026, Hamas actually sent two letters to Iran’s leadership. One letter was public and diplomatic in tone, whilst the other was confidential and revealed a less diplomatic face of Hamas.

“Whilst the group affirms Iran’s right to respond to this aggression in all available ways in accordance with international norms and law, it calls upon our brothers in Iran not to target neighbouring countries,” Hamas stated in its public letter.

In its secret letter, Hamas urged Iran’s Supreme Leader to “activate all fronts” throughout the region. Hamas also called for coordinated action by Iran-allied groups in Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen, aimed at increasing pressure on Israel.

“The Hamas movement today stands firmly with all its strength behind your wise leadership in confronting ‘Zionist-American’ chaos,” Hamas stated in its secret letter to Mojtaba.

Hamas’s message in the secret letter also expressed unwavering loyalty and support for Iran’s leadership, whilst emphasising a “unity of arenas” strategy, believed to refer to coordinating various fronts to fight Israel simultaneously.

“We will achieve our next victory under your leadership,” Hamas wrote to Iran’s Supreme Leader.

Additionally, in its confidential letter, Hamas reportedly criticised Arab nations that have normalised relations with Israel, calling the normalisation camp a “defeated camp”.

“They do not even dare to protect those sheltering at their bases,” Hamas taunted in its letter, seemingly mocking Gulf states, where American troops died in Iranian missile strikes in retaliation for Washington and Tel Aviv’s offensive operations.

Furthermore, the secret letter affirmed that Hamas would not surrender its weapons under any circumstances. This assertion rejects repeated demands made by the United States during Gaza ceasefire negotiations.
