Tehran (ANTARA) — Palestinian resistance group Hamas has condemned Israel’s treatment of Palestinian prisoners, describing the brutal torture inflicted on them as war crimes and a clear violation of international law.

According to a statement quoted by Qatar’s Al Jazeera TV network, Hamas said the torture at Ofer Prison, overseen by Israeli official Itamar Ben-Gvir, violates international law and constitutes a real challenge to global norms.

The statement also criticized the international community’s silence and the approval of the death penalty, saying these actions encourage the “fascist regime” to continue its violent practices inside prisons.

Previously, head of Nasser Hospital in Gaza, Ahmad Al-Farra, said the severity of the torture has made it increasingly difficult to identify the bodies of prisoners. He added that although Israeli authorities already knew the identities of the bodies returned to Gaza, they concealed the names, and only one out of seven could be positively identified.

Al-Farra described various cases in which decomposition or torture of prisoners had erased key identifying features. Some bodies were reportedly stuffed with cotton, suggesting organ theft. He also noted signs of torture on the abdominal area of several bodies, including burns from hot iron rods. These findings indicate that they were burned before ultimately dying.

Regarding these conditions, Hamas urged the international community to take immediate action. The group also described the violations committed by the Zionist regime as ongoing war crimes and demanded accountability.
