Hamas Asserts Christians are an Inseparable Part of Palestine

The Head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Khalil al-Hayya, expressed his condolences and sympathy to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem (Al-Quds) in Gaza on Sunday (4/10/2026).

The condolences were issued following the deaths of two Palestinian women, Maysa Khader Ibrahim Abu Daoud (Umm Michel) and her daughter, Mary Hafez Michel Al-Najjar (Umm Fouad). Both were killed during Zionist aggression targeting their apartment in Gaza City in the early hours of Saturday (3/10/2026).

In a message sent to Bishop Alexios, which Hamas published via its Telegram channel and was cited by the Yemen News Agency (Saba), Al-Hayya stated that the tragedy is a source of grief for all Palestinian people. He emphasised his solidarity with the families of the two victims and the Christian community in Gaza and Palestine as a whole.

Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have once again impacted the Christian community there. Five Palestinians, including four women, were killed and several others injured when Israeli forces bombed a residential apartment building in the Al-Rimal area, west of Gaza City, on Saturday morning; two of the victims were Gaza Christians.

Quds News Network reported that the attack targeted the ground floor of the Al-Asala 1 building near the Haidar Abdel Shafi roundabout. The victims were identified as Maysa Khader Abu Daoud and her daughter Mary Hafez Abu Daoud, both members of the Gaza Christian community.

In addition to them, an academic named Yasmin Khamis al-Boubou, her mother Halloum al-Boubou, and a young man named Bilal Awda also lost their lives.

Anadolu News Agency reported that Al-Shifa Hospital confirmed the deaths of the four women and the young man. Local sources and eyewitnesses told Anadolu that Israeli fighter jets fired at least two missiles at the apartment, destroying it and causing severe damage to surrounding houses. The bombing also triggered a fire.
