Halim Airport Closure Extended Until 23:59 WIB
The temporary closure of operations at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta has been extended again due to volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. Dozens of flights have been cancelled as a result of the volcanic ash.
“The operational closure of HLP Airport is extended until 23:59 WIB,” said Executive General Manager of Operations Colonel Pnb Ali Sudibyo when contacted on Sunday (6/9/2026).
It is understood that the temporary closure of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport operations was extended from the previous 10:00 WIB to 14:00 WIB. Subsequently, operations at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport were extended again until 18:00 WIB. Now the closure of Halim Airport operations has been extended once more until midnight.
A total of 72 flights have been reported cancelled due to the volcanic ash. The details are as follows:
Departure: 36 flights cancelled / 2,214 passengers
Arrival: 36 flights / 2,768 passengers
Total: 72 flights / 4,982 passengers
BMKG previously revealed the dispersion of volcanic ash resulting from the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau. BMKG stated that the ash reached areas from Lampung to parts of Jakarta.
BMKG presented data on volcanic ash dispersion as of 04:00 WIB. BMKG identified two clusters of ash dispersion from Mount Anak Krakatau.
“Based on information from PVMBG and VAAC Darwin as well as analysis of Himawari-9 RGB imagery on 6 September 2026 at 04:00 WIB, two clusters of volcanic ash dispersion from Mount Anak Krakatau were identified,” BMKG wrote on its website.
The first cluster was towards Jakarta, Banten and West Java. The ash dispersion reached an altitude of 20,000 feet.
“Dispersion from the surface up to an altitude of 20,000 ft was observed towards the northeast-south, covering parts of DKI Jakarta, Banten and West Java as well as surrounding waters,” it explained.
Meanwhile, dispersion from the surface up to an altitude of 50,000 feet was observed towards the southwest-northwest. This area covers parts of Lampung and beyond.
“Covering parts of Banten, Lampung, Bengkulu, the southern Sunda Strait, and the Indian Ocean to the west of Bengkulu, Lampung and Banten,” it explained.
