Halalbihalal of Indonesian Pharmaceutical Companies Association, Health Minister Urges Industry to Reduce Imports

The Indonesian Pharmaceutical Companies Association (GP Farmasi Indonesia) held a national halalbihalal event attended by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, BPOM Head Prof Taruna Ikrar, and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Admiral Supo Dwi Diantara in the Kemayoran area, Central Jakarta. The event served as a momentum to strengthen synergy between the government, regulators, and pharmaceutical business players in safeguarding national health resilience.

Amid escalating geopolitical conflicts in the Gulf region due to attacks by the United States (US) and Israel on Iran, this has impacted the global supply chain. The rise in global energy prices and disruptions in international logistics directly affect domestic pharmaceutical production costs, which still rely heavily on imported raw materials.

Health Minister Budi stressed the importance of bolstering national pharmaceutical resilience through cross-sector collaboration. According to him, the Ministry of Health is committed to ensuring that access to medicines in Indonesia remains available and affordable, by providing full support for the development and strengthening of domestic pharmaceutical enterprises.

“The government is also encouraging industry players to invest and innovate, including seeking alternative drug compositions and components (such as packaging) to reduce import dependency amid global geopolitical dynamics that impact rising raw material prices,” he stated in a press release in Jakarta on Saturday (18/4/2026).

BPOM Head Prof Taruna Ikrar explained that pharmaceutical business stability does not only depend on regulations but also on close coordination with pharmaceutical business players. He elaborated on BPOM’s role in maintaining drug availability while ensuring prices remain affordable, particularly through strengthening oversight of the drug and food supply chain.
