Halal labels
Halal labels
From Media Indonesia
I am a Moslem student and the halal (permitted by Islam) label question has come to my attention. I support the Indonesian Council of Ulemas' (MUI) idea of label standardization, which would serve as a sieve sifting good material from the bad. This would be the only way, according to MUI, to ensure success and would not disappoint Moslems.
We have come to the conclusion that if the label policy was successful, the use of one label type could be introduced which would be no problem to the public.
I personally support MUI's idea that the right to produce halal labels should be given to a competent party, MUI in this case, since it is related to Islam.
If seen from the context of the program of creating perfect Indonesians, I believe that we are going in the right direction. Development and growth of a perfect people are not only based on a nutritious diet, but also depends on what we are permitted to eat. We are concerned about the future of the younger generation, who might develop into a "degenerated" breed, due to their failure to find halal food.
We also hope that the President would agree with the standardized labeling idea for permitted food, so that the Indonesian Moslem community will not be disappointed.
