Halal certification boosts market confidence, says BPJPH chief
The Head of the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH), Ahmad Haikal Hasan, stated that halal certification has evolved into an important instrument for providing added value to products while simultaneously increasing market confidence.
“The halal value chain holds immense economic potential. With halal certificates, MSME products have broader opportunities to enter national and even international markets, while also strengthening the people’s economy,” said Haikal following the handover of 5,000 halal certificates to MSMEs under the auspices of PT Gajah Tunggal at the Griya Ganesha Jatiuwung Building, Tangerang, Banten, on Monday.
He noted that halal certification is a strategic step in enhancing product competitiveness and expanding market opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
“This programme is not merely about handing over certificates, but is an investment in improving the quality and competitiveness of MSMEs. When products possess halal certification, consumer trust increases and business opportunities become more accessible,” he added.
The Deputy Mayor of Tangerang, Maryono Hasan, expressed his appreciation to PT Gajah Tunglar for facilitating the issuance of 5,000 halal certificates for its mentored MSMEs. According to him, this step represents a tangible form of synergy between the industrial sector and the government in strengthening the capacity of local entrepreneurs.
He added that the Tangerang City Government remains committed to strengthening the MSME sector through various empowerment programmes, ranging from training and business mentoring to legality facilitation, marketing digitalisation, and easing access to halal certification.
He further noted that strengthening MSMEs is a key strategy in maintaining regional economic growth, as the sector is capable of creating jobs, increasing community income, and reinforcing the local economy.
“We want Tangerang’s MSMEs to continue to grow and level up. We will continue to provide various facilities so that entrepreneurs have the ability to compete, both in terms of product quality, business legality, and market access,” he continued.
Maryono expressed hope that possessing halal certificates would motivate MSME players to continuously improve product quality, maintain production standards, innovate, and utilise digital marketing opportunities to reach wider markets.
“Hopefully, more MSMEs in Tangerang City will be able to penetrate modern markets, expand their business networks, and even bring local products to the global market. With ongoing collaboration between the government, the industrial world, and entrepreneurs, I am optimistic that MSMEs will become the main force in driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth for Tangerang City,” said Maryono.
