House of Representatives Commission VIII Chair and Hajj Oversight Team member Marwan Dasopang stated that the DPR is pushing for a revision of the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) law to enable the institution to manage hajj funds more effectively.

According to Marwan, revising the BPKH law is crucial as the growing number of Indonesian hajj applicants causes pilgrims’ deposits to accumulate and remain idle for extended periods.

Thus, a specialised entity is needed to professionally manage these funds to generate benefits for pilgrims.

“Regardless of its eventual name, the existence of an entity like BPKH is essential. Given the large and continually accumulating hajj registration deposits, these funds must be managed,” Marwan Dasopang said in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

The PKB faction politician explained that the lengthy hajj departure waiting list causes pilgrims’ initial deposits to be held for long periods. This situation should be utilised to generate benefits that help reduce hajj operational costs.

However, Marwan noted that the current performance of hajj fund benefit management still needs improvement, as the generated benefits are not yet fairly distributed among all pilgrims, particularly those still on the departure queue.

“The ideal target is not only to subsidise departing pilgrims but also to ensure those still waiting receive their fair share of benefits,” he added.

He added that fairness in benefit distribution is a key concern. The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), he said, has stated that allocating benefits while ignoring the rights of waiting-list pilgrims is unacceptable.

Therefore, the DPR is currently pushing for a BPKH law revision to give the agency greater scope to optimise hajj fund management.

“The DPR’s revision proposal is underway for prompt approval, aiming for BPKH to maximise benefit generation for pilgrims,” he stated.
