Hajj 'Ticket Auction' Proposal: Deputy Minister Prioritises Those Already in Queue
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) is examining the proposal for a ‘ticket auction’ system for Hajj pilgrimage without the need for queuing. Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah (Wamenhaj) Dahnil Azhar Prabowo has assured that prospective pilgrims already in the queue will continue to be prioritised for departure to the Holy Land. “The priority is first for those who have already queued. Those who have queued will remain the primary ones,” Dahnil told reporters on Sunday (12/4/2026). Dahnil stated that this proposal emerges to address the queuing issue that has persisted for years. Kemenhaj is keen to resolve this Hajj queuing problem. When asked about the potential for insider dealings (ordal) if the ‘ticket auction’ system is implemented, Dahnil said his side is still focused on clearing the existing queue of prospective pilgrims first. “This proposal is an effort to resolve the queuing issue, meaning the focus is on clearing it until there are no more queues and improving the Hajj financial management under the BPKH (Hajj Financial Management Agency),” Dahnil explained. “The potential for moral hazard and manipulation practices is something that Kemenhaj is continuously cleaning up at present,” he added. Previously reported, Hajj and Umrah Minister RI Gus Irfan revealed that this idea stems from progressive thinking within the Ministry, including from the Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah. The aim is to find a solution so that prospective pilgrims do not have to wait too long to depart to the Holy Land. “There is thinking emerging: is such a long queue necessary? Shouldn’t we consider returning to the era before the BPKH existed? Before the BPKH, Insyaallah, there were no queues,” the Minister stated at the National Work Meeting (Rakernas) for Consolidation of Hajj Pilgrimage Implementation for 1447 H/2025 AD, held at the Grand El Hajj Hajj Dormitory (Cipondoh Hajj Dormitory), Tangerang, Banten, on Wednesday (8/4/2026). Under this ‘ticket auction’ scheme, the government would announce the Hajj costs for the current year and open registration on a specific date. Anyone who is financially and physically ready can register directly and depart in the same year.
