Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Hajj Task Force, formed by the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, has handled 59 cases related to Hajj implementation, such as fraud and non-procedural Hajj, as of 29 May 2026.

“Based on data from the Law Enforcement Sub-Task Force of the 2026 Hajj and Umrah Task Force up to 29 May 2026, 29 police reports and 30 information reports involving 26 suspects have been handled,” stated the Head of the Indonesian National Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

From these 5m59 Hajj cases, he noted, the number of victims reached 550 people, with total public losses amounting to Rp21.7 billion.

Johnny stated that this success is the result of synergy between the Directorate of Specific Crimes of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) and regional police departments across various regions in Indonesia.

In addition to law enforcement, the Hajj Task Force is also actively implementing preventive measures through public education, monitoring pilgrim departures, and coordinating across ministries and agencies. This is being done to prevent the public from falling victim to non-procedural Hajj practices or various fraudulent modes disguised as religious travel.

Johnny remarked that the challenges of Hajj administration in the future involve not only aspects of service and pilgrim management but also require the strengthening of public education. Furthermore, there is a need to increase compliance with Hajj implementation regulations, optimise the use of technology, and strengthen inter-agency coordination to anticipate various dynamics that may arise during future Hajj operations.

Therefore, according to him, strengthening Hajj governance, adaptive supervision, public education, and closer cooperation between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are strategic steps that must continue to be reinforced. This ensures that protection for pilgrims can be carried out comprehensively, from the registration process and departure to the performance of the pilgrimage and return to the homeland.
