The quality of food consumption for Hajj pilgrims is strictly maintained through a meal test process or food inspection before distribution. Through this testing, every dish is ensured to meet standards, both in terms of taste and portion sizes. Head of Consumption for Hajj Service Officers (PPIH) Indri Hapsari revealed that the inspections are carried out three times a day. “Three times a day, meal tests are conducted for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is crucial to ensure that what the pilgrims receive is appropriate and meets standards,” said Indri, at the Madinah Branch Office, Thursday (23/4/2026). Carbohydrates or rice have increased from 150 grams to 170 grams, while the portion of side dishes or protein has risen from the previous 70 grams to 80 grams. “In addition, with every meal, pilgrims receive one piece of fruit and 600 ml of mineral water,” she said. For the elderly specifically, consumption service adjustments are based on requests from cluster leaders. The elderly are allowed to receive food with textures suited to their requests. Indri also advised pilgrims to eat according to the consumption schedule. According to her, food must be eaten immediately because it has a limited safe consumption time. The maximum meal times are breakfast by 09.00 WAS (Saudi Arabia time), lunch by 15.00 WAS, and dinner by 21.00 WAS.
