Hajj Pilgrims Begin Entering Dormitories Today, First Batch to Depart Tomorrow
Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, stated that prospective Hajj pilgrims from the first batch will begin entering the Hajj Dormitory today, Tuesday (21 April). They will be dispatched to Madinah, Saudi Arabia, tomorrow.
“Insyaallah, tomorrow [red: today] they will start entering the Hajj dormitory for the first batch, and the day after [red: tomorrow] they will depart for Madinah,” Irfan said in an interview with CNN Indonesia TV on Monday (20 April) evening.
Irfan explained that this departure schedule aligns with the government’s intensive monitoring of the security situation due to dynamics in the Middle East.
According to him, President Prabowo Subianto has reminded that the safety of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims is the top priority.
“The President’s request to us regarding this situation is that whatever our decision, the main consideration is the security and safety of our Hajj pilgrims,” he stated.
“We are also increasing the number of pilgrim protection officers by 100%,” Irfan added.
Irfan mentioned that his ministry is also sending 3,000 Hajj officers this year. He noted that they have undergone a series of training to assist Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in the Holy Land.
“We have prepared these nearly 3,000 Hajj officers with very thorough preparations. They underwent 20 days in the Hajj dormitory plus 10 days online,” he said.
In addition to physical security guarantees, Irfan stated that the government is also providing financial certainty for prospective pilgrims regarding the impact of rising aviation fuel prices. He assured that the increase in aviation fuel prices will not affect Hajj costs.
“Not a single penny will be charged to the pilgrims, not even 1%,” he said.
The 2026 Hajj pilgrims are scheduled to begin entering the Hajj dormitory today, Tuesday (21 April).
The day after, the first wave of Hajj pilgrims will begin being flown from Indonesia to Madinah tomorrow, Wednesday (22 April).
Meanwhile, the second wave of pilgrims will follow, departing for Makkah starting 7 May 2026.
