Hajj Pilgrim Accident at Jabal Magnet, Komnas Haji: Waiting Period Should Focus on Worship

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission (Komnas Haji), Mustolih Siradj, stated that the hajj waiting period should be used to focus on worship, not for tourism that could endanger safety. “Because pilgrims in the organisation of hajj worship are focused on ibadah, and then the time is still very long to reach the peak (of hajj worship) in Armuzna (Arafah, Muzdalifah, Mina),” said Mustolih to Kompas.com on Thursday (30/4/2026). This was conveyed by Mustolih in light of the accident involving a bus of a hajj pilgrim group after conducting a city tour at Jabal Magnet. “Therefore, I think it is inappropriate if the waiting time is then used for tour activities,” he said. For that reason, he assessed that further evaluation is needed from the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) regarding the incident. “I think it needs to be revealed, right, what the motive is and whether this activity is really for tourism like that. If it’s tourism, who is the initiator?” said Mustolih. “Well, if this is an initiative from KBIHU (Kelompok Bimbingan Haji dan Umrah), I think KBIHU needs to be clarified about the motive,” he emphasised. There were two buses involved: the bus of the flying group (kloter) SUB-2 carried by the Hajj and Umrah Worship Guidance Group (KBIHU) Nurul Haramain Probolinggu and the bus of the JKS1 kloter carried by KBIHU Al Azhar. “The SUB-2 bus, which was moving, hit the side of the JKS-1 bus,” said Hasan.
