Hajj Officer Salary for 2027 and Complete General and Specific Registration Requirements

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia officially opened registration for Hajj officers for 1448 H/2027 on Tuesday, 25 August. There are two main assignment categories: Hajj Organising Officers (PPIH) for embarkation groups and PPIH for Saudi Arabia. Interest in registering as a Hajj officer with the ministry has always been high from year to year. Besides the valuable experience, the salary is one of the factors attracting attention. The financial rules for paying Hajj officers are set out in Law Number 14 of 2025, which amends Law Number 8 of 2019. Article 22 paragraph (6) states: ‘The operational costs of PPIH as referred to in paragraph (2) shall be charged to the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget in accordance with the state’s financial capacity.’

Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak said Hajj officers are paid approximately 1 million rupiah per day. Therefore, it is not surprising that the number of applicants always swells. ‘The public should know that Hajj officers are paid, they receive a salary. When a quota of 1,000 people is opened, the applicants can reach 50,000. Why? Because in one day a Hajj officer can receive around Rp900,000 to Rp1 million. They serve for almost 70 days,’ he said after the closing of the 2026 PPIH training at Galaxy Field, Makoops Udara I, Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta, Friday (30/1/2026). The figure above applies to 2026 Hajj officers. There is a possibility that the salary for 2027 Hajj officers will be different. Besides the basic salary, there are several other components that are the rights of Hajj officers, including operational allowances, officer honorariums, accommodation, consumption, and duty transport.

General requirements include being an Indonesian citizen, Muslim, physically and mentally healthy, not pregnant, having permission from one’s husband for married women, being fully committed to serving pilgrims, having integrity, credibility and a good track record, not being a suspect in a criminal case, having a valid identity document, having active BPJS Health membership, and for civil servants and employees being required to include written permission from the highest human resources leader of their institution from the start of registration. Applicants must be able to operate computer applications and/or Android and/or iOS based device applications, preferably able to speak Arabic and/or English, and must not be currently undertaking study assignments. Married couples are prohibited from serving as PPIH for embarkation groups, PPIH for Saudi Arabia, PPIH support staff for Saudi Arabia, or regional Hajj officers in the same year.

Specific requirements vary by position. For service, accommodation, consumption and transport officers, the minimum age is 25 and the maximum is 55 at the time of registration. For worship guidance officers, the minimum age is 35 and the maximum is 60, and applicants must have performed the Hajj and hold a Hajj guidance certificate. For Hajj media centre officers, the age range is 25 to 55, and applicants must work in journalism at conventional media or mass organisation media, proven by a journalist competency certificate, or be an employee handling public relations at a Ministry of Hajj office, proven by a public relations assignment letter. For conventional media participants, the media must be registered with the Press Council. A maximum of two participants may register for each first-echelon public relations unit, provincial ministry office, Islamic mass organisation media, and conventional media. For elderly and disability service officers, the age range is 25 to 45, and knowledge or experience in handling elderly people and/or persons with disabilities is preferred, proven by a certificate or official letter.

Administrative requirements also differ by position. For service, accommodation, consumption and transport officers, required documents include a recommendation letter from the head of an institution, Islamic mass organisation, Islamic boarding school, or Islamic higher education institution, an identity card, a colour scan of the latest diploma, a statement of ability to operate a computer, Android or iOS, a police record certificate for non-civil servants, the latest civil service decree for civil servants, an optional statement of having performed the Hajj, optional TOEFL/TOAFL/IELTS certificates, optional certificates from the last two years related to Hajj organisation, and an optional husband’s permission letter for married women. For worship guidance officers, the same documents are required, but the statement of having performed the Hajj is mandatory. For Hajj media centre officers, required documents include a recommendation letter from the head of an institution, editor-in-chief, or Islamic mass organisation, an identity card, and a colour scan of the latest diploma.
