Hajj Flight Costs Rise by Up to Rp1.7 Trillion
Further negotiations will be held in Islamabad on Friday (10/4). Deputy Minister for Hajj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stated that the difference in the increase in flight costs for the 1447H/2026M hajj pilgrimage could reach Rp1.7 trillion. “For now, we’re preparing for around nearly Rp1 trillion more, Rp1.7 trillion. But the exact amount, we’ll recalculate,” Dahnil said in Jakarta on Thursday (9/4). Nevertheless, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will recalculate and ensure the precise amount of the flight cost increase for the hajj. “We’ll recalculate later because there are price fluctuations. For example, avtur dropped yesterday, so we’ll adjust accordingly,” he explained. It is known that the rising global geopolitical tensions, particularly the conflict between Iran and the United States involving Israel, are beginning to impact this year’s hajj arrangements. The increase in avtur prices and flight route adjustments are the main factors potentially driving up hajj costs. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasised that hajj fees for 2026 will not be raised, despite one component—avtur for aircraft fuel—increasing. The government stated it does not want to burden hajj pilgrims amid the surge in global crude oil prices.
