JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah, M Irfan Yusuf, has requested approval from Commission VIII of the DPR RI regarding the determination of the increase in Hajj flight costs for 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE, amounting to Rp 1.77 trillion.

The request was conveyed by Irfan during a working meeting with Commission VIII of the DPR RI on Tuesday (14/4/2026), following the surge in costs proposed by airlines.

“We hope that at this working meeting with Commission VIII of the DPR RI, it can be approved and decided regarding the amount and source of financing to meet the adjustment of those costs,” said Irfan at the DPR RI building.

According to him, Garuda Indonesia has proposed an increase of up to Rp 974.8 billion, while Saudi Airlines has proposed Rp 802.8 billion.

“In aggregate, the total cost has surged from Rp 6.69 trillion to Rp 8.46 trillion, or an increase of Rp 1.77 trillion,” said Irfan.

Nevertheless, Irfan emphasised that President Prabowo Subianto has instructed that the cost increase not be burdened on Hajj pilgrims.

Irfan stated that the government is currently examining various alternative financing options to cover the cost differential.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is also coordinating with the Attorney General’s Office to ensure the force majeure status and the legality of the financing sources.

“Regarding the flight cost increase proposed by the airlines, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is currently coordinating with the Attorney General’s Office and related parties to ensure its force majeure status and the legality of the financing sources,” he said.

However, based on Law No. 14 of 2025, the Hajj flight cost component is sourced from the Hajj Worship Management Fee (BPIH).

Meanwhile, flight costs for kloter officials are sourced from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN).

“Indeed, as asked by the Chairman earlier, there are several alternatives, all ready; we just need to see our coordination with the Attorney General’s Office later regarding the status and legality of the financing sources,” said Irfan.
