Hajj Flight Costs for 2026 Increase by Rp 1.77 Trillion
Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochammad Irfan Yusuf stated that the increase in Hajj flight costs for 1446 Hijriah, due to high global oil prices, has been set at Rp 1.77 trillion. This surge in costs is the figure proposed by the airlines. Irfan explained that the cost increase is triggered by the spike in avtur (aviation fuel) prices and exchange rate fluctuations, which exert significant pressure on the Hajj flight financing structure. Irfan conveyed that Garuda Indonesia has proposed a cost increase of up to Rp 978 billion, while Saudi Airlines has set the fare at Rp 802.8 billion. “In aggregate, the total cost jumps from Rp 6.69 trillion to Rp 8.46 trillion, an increase of Rp 1.77 trillion,” said Irfan during a working meeting with Commission VIII of the DPR at the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Tuesday, 14 April 2026. On that occasion, Irfan assured that the increase in Hajj flight costs would not be borne by the pilgrims. The government, he said, is currently examining various financing alternatives to cover the cost differential. Irfan stated that there are two funding source options being prepared. Specifically, for pilgrim Hajj flight costs, sourced from the Hajj Operational Management Fee (BPIH). Then, for the flight costs of kloter officials, taken from the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN). The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah still needs to coordinate with the Attorney General’s Office to ensure the force majeure status and the legality of the funding sources. “There are several alternatives, all ready; we just need to see how our coordination with the Attorney General’s Office goes regarding the status and legality of the funding sources,” said Irfan. Indonesian Hajj pilgrims are scheduled to depart for the Holy Land starting 22 April 2026. The departure is divided into two waves, with the first wave heading to Madinah and the second wave directly to Jeddah.
