A healthcare official, Dr Fitri Rezkiani, has reportedly passed away while performing her duties serving Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. The victim is believed to have suffered health complications triggered by a suspected allergic reaction.

“It is true, the deceased was assigned to escort Hajj pilgrims from Southeast Sulawesi as part of group 38,” said the Acting Head of the Southeast Sulawesi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Muh Lalan Jaya, to reporters on Monday (8/6).

Lalan explained that Dr Fitri Rezkiani had been unwell since 7 June. The victim subsequently received medical treatment at King Abdul Aziz Hospital on Sunday (7/6) local time. “She fell ill due to exhaustion. There was no prior medical history, but according to doctors, there was an indication of an allergy,” he stated.

The burial process for Dr Fitri Rezkiani will take place in Saudi Arabia, following the same procedure as other Indonesian pilgrims. Meanwhile, Lalan noted that all pilgrims in group 38 remain in the Holy Land to complete the Armuzna rituals, which are the peak of the Hajj pilgrimage. The entire group is scheduled to return to Indonesia on 24 June.

“At this time, the main Hajj rituals have concluded; the pilgrims are now conducting pilgrimages and performing sunnah prayers while awaiting their return,” Lalan added. To date, the total number of pilgrims from Southeast Sulawesi who have passed away in Saudi Arabia during this Hajj season stands at three.
