The government’s decision not to increase Hajj costs has been applauded by parliament. As reminded by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto yesterday, the 2026 Hajj Operational Cost (BPIH) has been set at Rp87.4 million per pilgrim. This represents a Rp2 million decrease compared to the 2025 BPIH of Rp89.4 million.

DPR RI Commission VIII member Sandi Fitrian Noor stated that the choice not to raise the BPIH demonstrates the state’s presence in anticipating global dynamics stemming from the Middle East conflict. Due to the war between the United States (US) and Iran, aircraft avtur fuel prices have surged. Nevertheless, Sandi said, the government, together with the DPR, has kept the 2026 BPIH at Rp87.4 million.

He also appreciated the policy from President Prabowo Subianto. Because the rise in avtur costs and its impact on Hajj expenses must be addressed carefully, proportionately, and fairly so as not to burden Indonesian pilgrims.

“This is concrete proof that the state is present. Without subsidies or benefits, Hajj costs could skyrocket. Therefore, our task in Commission VIII is to ensure that the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH) continues to enhance its syariah-compliant and prudent investment performance,” Sandi said in Jakarta on Thursday (9/4/2026).

Despite the threat of global war, according to him, the 2026 BPIH has successfully been reduced by Rp2 million from the previous year. This reduction mainly stems from cost efficiencies in hotels and accommodation in Saudi Arabia, achieved through better negotiations.

“This means that if we seriously pursue efficiencies and professional financial management, the increases due to the war (US-Iran) can be mitigated. We must not allow irresponsible parties to exploit war rhetoric to unilaterally raise Hajj costs,” he said.
