The 2026 Hajj season has been marred by alleged legal violations harming pilgrims. In response, the Law Enforcement Sub-Task Force of the Hajj and Umrah Task Force has carried out a series of enforcement actions, resulting in the naming of dozens of suspects. “As of Monday (6/7/2026), the Law Enforcement Sub-Task Force of the Hajj and Umrah Task Force has named 32 suspects with the number of victims reaching 3,550 people,” said the Head of the Sub-Task Force, Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/7/2026). Irhamni, who is also the Director of Specific Crimes at the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency, said law enforcement by the police was carried out from the Bareskrim level down to the Regional Police. He stated that a total of 64 cases are being handled by the Hajj and Umrah Task Force. This figure consists of 34 police reports and 30 information reports, with total victim losses reaching Rp116.7 billion. Among the regional police forces with notable disclosures, Polda Metro Jaya is investigating four police reports involving 3,000 victims. From these reports, one suspect has been named, with victim losses amounting to Rp95 billion. Meanwhile, East Java Regional Police have named 13 suspects with 145 victims, and losses reaching Rp9.5 billion. Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police have named three suspects with 282 victims, with estimated losses of Rp8.8 billion. The National Police, he said, remains committed to eradicating violations related to Hajj and Umrah to ensure the public can worship peacefully. He also reminded the public to be wary of promises of cheap Hajj and Umrah packages. “The public must remain vigilant and not be tempted by offers of cheap Hajj and Umrah from irresponsible parties,” he said.
