Hajj and Umrah Task Force Names 32 Suspects Defrauding 3,550 Pilgrims

The 2026 Hajj season has been marred by alleged illegal practices that have caused significant losses to pilgrims. In response, the Law Enforcement Sub-Task Force for Hajj and Umrah has conducted a series of legal actions, resulting in the naming of dozens of suspects.

“As of Monday (6/7/202<0xA0>6), the Law Enforcement Sub-Task Force for Hajj and Umrah has identified 32 suspects, with the number of victims reaching 3,550 people,” stated Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni, Head of the Law Enforcement Sub-Task Force, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (7/7/2026).

Irhamni, who also serves as the Director of Specific Crimes (Dirtipidter) at the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri), noted that law enforcement efforts are being carried out across all levels, from Bareskrim to Regional Police (Polda) units.

He stated that there are a total of 64 cases being handled by the Hajj and Umrah Task Force. This figure comprises 34 police reports (LP) and 30 information reports (LI), with total victim losses amounting to Rp116.7 billion.

Among the notable regional police investigations, Polda Metro Jaya is investigating four police reports involving 3,000 victims. From these reports, one suspect has been named, with losses reaching Rp95 billion.

Furthermore, Polda East Java has identified 13 suspects involving 145 victims, with losses amounting to Rp9.5 billion. Meanwhile, Polda Southeast Sulawesi has named three suspects involving 282 victims, with estimated losses of Rp8.8 billion.

The National Police, he said, remains committed to eradicating violations related to Hajj and Umrah to ensure that the public can perform their worship in peace.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant against the allure of low-cost Hajj and Umrah packages. “The public needs to stay alert and not be tempted by cheap Hajj and Umrah offers from irresponsible parties,” he added.
