The Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) is pushing to strengthen the Hajj and Umrah economic ecosystem so that the benefits of organising these pilgrimages are not only felt by the pilgrims but also have a positive impact on the national economy and public welfare. This commitment is part of the transformation of Hajj and Umrah service management, which has been continuously strengthened by the government since President Prabowo Subianto established the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah as a specialised ministry to handle the organisation of Hajj and Umrah in a more focused and professional manner. The establishment of Kemenhaj is the implementation of the mandate of Law Number 14 of 2025 concerning the Third Amendment to Law Number 8 of 2019 on the Organisation of Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimages. The presence of this ministry is expected to address various challenges in organising the pilgrimages while improving the quality of services to the public. As a follow-up to this regulation, the government formed the Directorate General of Hajj Economic Ecosystem Management, which has the strategic task of developing the economic benefit value of the Hajj and Umrah sector for the Indonesian people. This step aligns with the three main pillars of Hajj and Umrah organisation: service, guidance, and protection of pilgrims. Director General of Hajj Economic Ecosystem Management, Prof Jaenal Effendi, stated that the public holds high hopes for the implementation of the new regulation because performing Hajj and Umrah is the aspiration of every Muslim. β€˜The aspiration to perform Hajj and Umrah is embedded in the heart of every Muslim. We, as regulators, together with the Umrah Travel Organisers (PPIU) and Special Hajj Organisers (PIHK), have our respective roles in implementing the mandate of this law. Therefore, the development of the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem must be carried out through synergistic collaboration,’ Jaenal said in a press release received on Thursday (25/6/2026).
