Hajj air travel opportunity
Jakarta, 25 June 1953 (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Religious Affairs has announced an opportunity for Hajj travel by air. Requirements include Hajj passports, vaccination certificates, and other standard documents. Payment to local Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) will follow standard procedures. The airfare shortfall of Rp9,650 (after deducting the base fare of Rp2,850 from the total Rp12,500) will be addressed later. Prospective pilgrims are advised to prepare foreign currency for Saudi Arabia, covered by a £70 maintenance allowance, as air travellers will stay only about 10 days compared to the typical two-month stay for sea travellers. Applications must be submitted to the Ministry’s Hajj department by 15 July 1953. This announcement specifically targets the 55 registered prospective pilgrims. Air transport will be managed by Pioneer Aviation Corporation, using Dakota (C-47) aircraft for 25 passengers or Curtiss Commando (C-46) for at least 60 passengers.
