The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) has established the latest regulations regarding health requirements for prospective Hajj pilgrims in 2026. The main focus of these rules is the obligation for certain vaccinations to ensure maximum protection for pilgrims while in the Holy Land.

Nutrition expert and Lecturer in Public Health at Universitas Faletehan Serang, Dr. Rita Ramayulis, DCN, M.Kes, explained that there are two types of mandatory vaccines. The first is the meningococcal ACWY meningitis vaccine, and the second is the polio vaccine.

“The meningitis vaccine aims to protect pilgrims from meningitis, which is highly contagious in crowded environments,” said Rita when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday (7/4/2026).

Rita added that the meningitis vaccine must be given at least 10 days before departure. Meanwhile, the polio vaccine is a special requirement for pilgrims from Indonesia due to the country’s status still under global monitoring for polio cases.
