JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj), Suci Annisa, announced that the total number of Hajj pilgrims who have passed away in Saudi Arabia has reached 10 following the reported death of a pilgrim from Bogor Regency, West Java, on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

“On 5 May 2026, one pilgrim named Aen Soleh Salimar, from batch JKS 05 originating from Bogor Regency, passed away. The total number of deceased pilgrims to date is 10,” Suci stated during a press conference on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

To anticipate such risks, the government is ensuring that health services continue to operate at every level.

“The government will continue to ensure that health services run optimally, both through health posts in batches, sectors, and referral health facilities in Saudi Arabia,” she added.

“144 pilgrims have been referred to KKHI (Indonesian Hajj Health Clinic), 232 pilgrims referred to Saudi Arabian hospitals, and 70 pilgrims are still undergoing treatment,” she further noted.

As of 5 May 2026, 250 batches with 97,139 pilgrims and 996 staff have departed from Indonesia.

Meanwhile, 239 batches with 92,739 pilgrims and 952 staff have arrived in Medina and occupied the prepared accommodations.

The movement of pilgrims from Medina to Mecca is also proceeding gradually.

A total of 88 batches with 34,244 pilgrims and 352 staff have arrived in Mecca to perform the obligatory Umrah.

“All pilgrim movement processes are carried out in a coordinated manner with staff supervision. We ensure that every pilgrim receives safe, comfortable, and orderly services from departure until the performance of worship in the Holy Land,” Suci emphasised.
