Hajj 2026 Peak Phase Begins, Pilgrims Reminded to Look Out for Each Other

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The peak phase of the 2026 Hajj began today, Monday, 25 May 2026, as pilgrims moved from Mecca to Arafah.

National Hajj Commission Chairman Mustolih said strong unity and solidarity among pilgrims are crucial during this peak phase.

“Support each other with a spirit of ‘pilgrims looking after pilgrims’ without always relying on officials,” he said in a written statement on Monday (25 May 2026).

He added that approximately 1.6 million pilgrims from around the world are participating in this movement.

“During this period, guests of Allah must proceed to Mecca to perform the Tawaf Ifadah, Sa’i, and Tahallul,” he said.

With a packed schedule, long distances, and simultaneous rituals, the rites of Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina will be physically demanding.

Fatigue often sets in, leading to reduced concentration and a sudden drop in stamina.

During the Arafat-Muzdalifah-Mina phase, Mustolih noted, millions of pilgrims wear identical white ihram garments, making it difficult to distinguish between them.

Add to that the scorching heat expected to reach nearly 50 degrees Celsius, presenting further challenges.

Therefore, he reiterated the need for pilgrims to look out for one another.

As part of the 2026 Hajj arrangements, pilgrim arrivals are divided into two waves.

The first wave consists of 103,732 pilgrims in 267 groups.

First-wave pilgrims arrived at Medina Airport between 22 April and 6 May 2026.

Second-wave pilgrims arrived via King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

The completion of all 527 groups’ arrivals marked the start of the Hajj’s peak phase.
