Haji Her Arrives in Pamekasan After KPK Examination, Welcomed by Locals
Tobacco entrepreneur from Madura, H Khairul Umam, known as Haji Her, received a warm welcome from residents upon arriving at the Monumen Arek Lancor in Pamekasan on Sunday (12/4). His arrival in the centre of Pamekasan came after he fulfilled an examination by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Jakarta. In his statement to journalists, Haji Her admitted he did not expect to receive such a welcome from the community. “I only found out when we were almost arriving in Pamekasan. We thank you for this reception,” he said. The welcome was seen as a form of moral support from the community towards him. Furthermore, Haji Her conveyed his plan to seek advice from ulama regarding future steps, particularly in efforts to fight for the welfare of tobacco farmers. He is scheduled to meet several prominent ulama figures, especially the Caretaker of Al-Hamidy Banyuanyar, RKH Muhammad Rofi’i Baidhowi, for a visit. “I will seek guidance on the next steps to collectively think about the future of tobacco farmers,” he added. Haji Her emphasised that in the future, he wants to continue contributing to supporting the welfare of tobacco farmers, who have long been an important part of Madura’s economic wheel. Haji Her visited the Merah Putih Building of the KPK on Thursday (9/4) afternoon last week. The entrepreneur, also known as ‘Crazy Rich Madura’, underwent examination as a witness in the alleged bribery case for importing goods at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) and receipt of gratuities. Haji Her arrived with his legal team around 12:50 WIB. He was seen wearing a brown sarong and a white shirt with a tiger print. After being examined, Haji Her claimed he did not know the suspect officials from the Customs Directorate. “We were asked if we knew those people. Well, I answered, I don’t know them,” said Haji Her at the Merah Putih Building of the KPK, Jakarta, on Thursday (9/4) afternoon.
