Haj Ministry Gathers Notes for 2026 Haj Evaluation, Tightens Health Rules

The Ministry of Haj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) has gathered a number of notes for evaluation regarding the 2026 Haj season, specifically concerning the mobilisation of pilgrims in Arafah, Muzdalifah, and Mina (Armuzna) and the istitha’ah health policy. Deputy Minister of Haj and Umrah Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak stated in Malang, East Java, on Friday that as this was the ministry’s first year directly organising the pilgrimage, there are important records, particularly on movement in Armuzna and health eligibility. He noted that the assignment patterns for officers during pilgrim movement in Armuzna will be improved to provide more intensive service to pilgrims. The istitha’ah health policy remains a significant concern, as the mortality rate among pilgrims, especially from East Java, is still high despite a decrease compared to the previous year. Dahnil reported that the number of Haj pilgrims from East Java who died reached 104 in 2025, dropping to 65 in 2026. Consequently, the ministry will tighten health requirements for those intending to perform Haj in the 2027 season, ensuring that individuals with indications of dementia, kidney disease, tuberculosis, and similar conditions are not permitted to depart. Additionally, the ministry is currently formulating the Haj travel cost (BPIH) for 2027 and striving to prevent significant increases due to the weakening of the rupiah against the US dollar. Dahnil’s visit to Malang was also to offer support to Muhaimin, a Haj officer whose wife had recently passed away, emphasising that Haj officers are part of the ministry’s extended family. Muhaimin is currently still fulfilling his duties as a Haj officer in Saudi Arabia.
