Hairdresser, monks deported
JAKARTA (JP): The immigration directorate general deported
yesterday a Japanese hairdresser from the Soekarno-Hatta
International Airport for violating an immigration permit.
Immigration director for supervision and control Zaiman
Nurmatias said Matsuo Shuji left the country on a Singapore
Airlines flight.
"Immigration officials arrested the man at Centra Beauty Pro
salon at Plaza Indonesia shopping center in Central Jakarta on
Sept. 24," Zaiman said.
He said Shuji was cutting the hair of an undercover
immigration official when he was arrested.
He said Shuji carried a temporary stay permit issued by the
Central Jakarta immigration office stating that the Japanese man
was employed by PT Eres Revco as a cosmetics promotion
consultant, not as a hairdresser.
Zaiman said his office also deported five Buddhist monks
Wednesday on a Garuda Indonesia flight for violating immigration
permits.
He said the five monks -- Thai Pharachaiyot Chaiyayaso and
Taiwanese Wu Mei Li, Lee Ching Ju, Ho Han Chou and Lan Chin Ling
were arrested in Jambi on Oct. 2 while handing out religious
brochures.
The monks, as stated in their permits, visited certain places
in the country with the aim of giving lectures and holding
prayers for people's safety, he said.
"Their activities were not in line with the permits given to
them," Zaiman said.
He said his office had deported 479 foreigners this year
for violating their permits. (jun)
