Chairman of the Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, invited all citizens and national elites to make the momentum of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriyah a path to draw even closer to Allah SWT and to bring the values of ihsan into every aspect of life, both personal and in national and state affairs.

The message was delivered by Haedar Nashir after performing and delivering the Eid al-Fitr sermon at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Friday (20/3/2026).

Regarding differences in the determination of Eid al-Fitr, Haedar urged the public not to sharpen existing differences. He emphasised that differences are normal and should not become a source of conflict.

“We do not need to sharpen differences, let alone seek self-justification by blaming others. Both in the context of citizenship and government, all parties must exercise restraint,” he said in a statement received by Republika on Friday.

He also invited religious figures and national elites to avoid statements or words that could muddy the atmosphere in society. According to him, Eid al-Fitr must be observed with devotional worship and clarity of soul and mind.

“Observe Eid al-Fitr with devotion, whether celebrating on 20 or 21 March, or even earlier, so that we do not get trapped in the desire for differences that instead fracture unity,” he said.

Haedar conveyed his belief that the Indonesian nation possesses the maturity to address differences. He also hoped that in the future, the Islamic world could have a single global calendar to minimise differences in determining major religious days.
