Habiburokhman requests Pati activist's account be reactivated today
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Habiburokhman has requested that the reactivation of the account belonging to Supriyono, Coordinator of the Pati United Community Alliance (AMPB), be carried out immediately on Wednesday.
The statement was made by Habiburokhman during a joint press conference with the Metro Jaya Regional Police and PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk. On that occasion, the police and the bank announced that Supriyono’s account would be reactivated after a temporary hold had been placed on transactions.
“Alhamdulillah, we hope the account can soon be used by Mr Botok (Supriyono’s nickname) because he may need it for his activities. Immediately, if possible the process can be completed today,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirkrimum) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, explained that the police had completed their examination of the account, which contained funds raised to support the Pati community protest.
“We have obtained legal facts from the relevant parties regarding the donations and the account in question. Accordingly, the hold on the account can now be lifted and the matter returned to the authority of Bank Mandiri,” he said.
Iman said the hold was imposed to ensure that the donated funds came from sources that did not violate the law. The measure was taken to protect both donors and the recipient of the donations.
The hold on account transactions, he said, may be imposed for up to five working days as stipulated in Law Number 8 of 2010 on the Prevention and Eradication of Money Laundering.
“Today has not yet reached five working days. Nevertheless, we moved quickly to ensure that the democratic process and the expression of opinions as regulated by law are also protected for all members of the public,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Director of PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk Riduan stated that Bank Mandiri would promptly reactivate Supriyono’s account.
He also stressed that Bank Mandiri would continue to uphold its customers’ trust by conducting banking operations prudently.
“As a bank that serves customers with the consequences set out in regulations, we will follow up on what has been conveyed to immediately reactivate the account for which a transaction hold was previously announced,” he said.
Previously, Supriyono’s bank account was reportedly blocked while he was accompanying Pati residents to voice their aspirations in Jakarta on Friday (21/8). The account was said to contain Rp80.9 million in personal funds and public donations for the protest.
