JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Habiburokhman, prayed that videographer Amsal Sitepu would be acquitted today. “We pray that in today’s verdict, Amsal can also be freed from all charges,” said Habiburokhman when asked for confirmation on Wednesday (1/4/2026). Habiburokhman also appreciated the panel of judges for granting their request to suspend Amsal’s detention in the case of markup on the village profile video production project. In this matter, Commission III of the DPR acted as the guarantor for the suspension of Amsal’s detention. “We appreciate the suspension of Amsal Sitepu’s detention by the Medan District Court. This is a concrete manifestation of the court’s sensitivity to the sense of justice that lives in society,” said Habiburokhman. Amsal Sitepu then responded by thanking many parties, including Commission III of the People’s Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI). “Of course, I am grateful for all the support given; today’s freedom, let it be the freedom of Indonesia’s creative workers,” said Amsal at the Tanjung Gusta Detention Centre in Medan. The trial for reading the verdict in the alleged corruption case for producing village profile videos in Karo Regency, which ensnared the defendant Amsal Christy Sitepu, is scheduled to take place at the Medan District Court on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. Ahead of the verdict reading, Amsal’s legal counsel, Willyam Raja Dev, expressed his hope that the panel of judges would deliver the fairest justice for his client. “Our hope remains in line with the plea, in the form of freedom,” said Willyam when contacted on Tuesday, 31 March 2026. This case originated from a village profile video production project in Karo Regency that led to legal proceedings. During the 2020 to 2022 budget period, Amsal offered video production services to several village governments in Karo Regency. Through his company, CV Promiseland, he submitted proposals to 20 villages in four sub-districts, namely Tiganderket, Tigabinanga, Tigapanah, and Namanteran.
