Habiburokhman Praises UI Law Faculty Students for Holding Open Forum to Address Harassment Case
JAKARTA - The Chairman of DPR RI Commission III, Habiburokhman, has appreciated the initiative by students from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law (FH UI) in holding a forum and confronting the perpetrators of sexual harassment on campus.
According to him, the response by the FH UI Student Executive Board (BEM) and the FH UI Student Family Association (IKM) demonstrates an open and firm stance in addressing the case.
“We appreciate the BEM FH UI and IKM FHUI for their swift response to the sexual violence case allegedly involving 16 FH UI students by holding a sort of ‘RDPU’ in the FH UI Auditorium openly,” said Habiburokhman in a written statement on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
“We see that the female and male students could speak firmly directly with the alleged perpetrators to question their motives,” said Habiburokhman.
According to him, phenomena of violations by certain individuals can occur anywhere.
However, Habiburokhman emphasised that the response from the FH UI student institution deserves appreciation for prioritising speed, openness, and firmness.
The Gerindra Party politician is confident that the case can be resolved well, including ensuring that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
“We believe this sexual violence case can be resolved well, meaning that those who are guilty are asked for proportionate accountability,” said Habiburokhman.
After the case surfaced on social media, FH UI students held an open trial forum to demand accountability from 16 students alleged to be the perpetrators of harassment.
FH UI BEM Chairman Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo said that the open trial attended by the perpetrators essentially proceeded without violence.
However, the victim once shouted to express frustration directly to the perpetrators.
“Certainly, there was also a response from the victims who were distressed and angry about the treatment by the perpetrators,” said Dimas when confirmed by Kompas.com on Tuesday (14/4/2026).
