Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, has praised the transparency of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in dealing with rogue members who commit violations. He assessed that Polri is currently the most responsive and open institution regarding the imposition of sanctions on its members compared to other institutions.

This was conveyed by Habiburokhman at a seminar titled ‘UNIPOL: Preparing Precise Polri Personnel’ at the Mutiara Auditorium of STIK/PTIK Polri, South Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026). Habiburokhman initially discussed the acceleration of Polri’s ongoing transformation.

“We know that recently, demands for accelerating Polri reform have re-emerged along with the increasing openness of democratic space,” said Habiburokhman in his presentation.

According to him, this is something natural. He stated that state institutions are indeed demanded to accelerate their own reforms.

Habiburokhman mentioned that one aspect closely related to reform is integrity. He explained that integrity challenges always exist in every state institution, including Polri.

Where there are rogue elements who violate rules. However, he emphasised that Polri leadership should not worry about it as long as the institution dares to act firmly.

“I say to my friends in Polri’s top leadership, ‘don’t worry about the rogues’. Every institution surely has rogues, surely there are those who violate,” he said.

“The most important thing is how the institution responds to those rogues. And I must say, Polri is the institution that provides the best response to violations committed by its rogues,” continued Habiburokhman.

This Gerindra politician then compared Polri’s transparency with other state institutions. According to him, in other agencies, the clarity of sanctions against violators is often difficult for the public to monitor.

“Apologies, we’ve followed that in other institutions, apologies, when violations occur, we can’t track what the sanctions are, whether it’s just detention or legal proceedings. If Polri violates even a little, it’s PTDH, right? All of this is done openly,” he stated.

Habiburokhman appreciated the attitude of Polri under the leadership of Chief of Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who is not allergic to openness. For him, transparency is the best way to show the people that violations committed are by rogues and not institutional policy.

“So I see that Polri under Pak Sigit is not allergic to openness,” he added.

“Like in the DPR, sir, our only weapon that can save us is openness. No matter how bad we are, but if we’re open, the people will still give us some leeway. That’s also what the current Polri leadership is doing by promoting openness,” continued Habiburokhman.

Furthermore, Habiburokhman assured that Commission III of the DPR will continue to push for transparent law enforcement processes through General Hearing Meetings (RDPU). He appreciated Polri’s steps that always quickly follow up on findings or conclusions from the DPR.

“The people can finally see how firm Polri is in addressing rogue members who commit violations,” said Habiburokhman.

“We push for an open process, but the very good response shown by Polri is to immediately follow up on what we conclude. That’s what we continue to encourage,” he concluded.
