Habiburokhman: Maximum Sentence for Taufik Hidayat Could Provide Deterrent Effect

Jakarta – Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, has commended the West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) for successfully arresting Taufik Hidayat, the perpetrator of the confinement, kidnapping, and torture of YTR (29) in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, West Java. Habiburokhman assessed that the police force acted swiftly in following up on the confinement case.

“As Chairman of Commission III DPR RI, I give the highest appreciation to the West Java Police Chief and all police ranks who moved quickly, responsively, and tactically in arresting the suspect Taufik Hidayat, the perpetrator of the confinement and brutal abuse of a woman in Bandung,” Habiburokhman said in an official statement on Wednesday, 24 June 2026. He added that the West Java Police demonstrated their commitment and proved that the state is present to protect all citizens.

“This swift action shows the strong commitment of the West Java Police in providing a sense of security within the community, while also proving that the state is present and gives no room whatsoever for acts of violence against women,” he said. According to him, the confinement and torture case carried out by Taufik Hidayat has disturbed the sense of humanity. He urged the police to impose the heaviest possible punishment on Taufik Hidayat.

“This case carried out by Taufik Hidayat has deeply disturbed our sense of humanity. Therefore, I request and urge law enforcement officials not to hesitate in ensnaring the perpetrator with layered legal articles carrying the maximum penalty,” Habiburokhman stated. “We must use all available legal instruments, both the Criminal Code regarding confinement and aggravated assault, as well as the Sexual Violence Crime Law (UU TPKS) if such elements are found during the investigation,” he continued.

The Gerindra Party politician explained that the maximum punishment for Taufik Hidayat must be applied because it can provide a deterrent effect and serve as a warning to the entire community. Commission III DPR RI will continue to oversee the case of confinement and torture experienced by the victim in the pursuit of justice.

“This maximum and layered punishment for Taufik Hidayat is not only for the sake of justice for the victim who has suffered deep trauma, but also as a stern warning and a real deterrent effect for anyone else not to commit such heinous acts. Commission III DPR RI will continue to oversee this legal process until it is completed in court,” he said.
