Habiburokhman Confirms Asset Forfeiture Bill to Be Completed by December 2026
Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, has confirmed that deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill is being accelerated. He stated that the bill is targeted for completion no later than December 2026.
Habiburokhman explained that Commission III will continue to hold public hearings to gather aspirations, harmonisation meetings, working meetings with the government, discussion of the problem inventory list, first-level approval, and ultimately second-level approval at the plenary session in December 2026.
“If calculated from the effective sitting time of the DPR, after deducting the recess period, the deliberation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill only requires about eight more weeks,” said Habiburokhman on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.
To date, he said that Commission III has held 35 public hearings to gather aspirations, conducted three working visits to the regions, and received written input from dozens of community elements.
Given that the remaining time before the targeted approval date is not much longer, he said the public can submit their views on the concept of the Asset Forfeiture Bill in writing.
According to him, the effort to gather aspirations is approaching its maximum after dozens of community elements conveyed their aspirations to the DPR RI. He assessed that the map of public opinion on the bill has become fragmented.
The majority of the public, he said, strongly supports the establishment of the Asset Forfeiture Bill, and most also support that the bill be drafted carefully.
“So as to eliminate the potential for corruption within corruption eradication in the form of abuse of power by law enforcement officials,” he said.
