Habiburokhman: Asset Forfeiture Bill Confirmed for Completion by December 2026

Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, has stated that his team is finalising the drafting of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. He confirmed that the bill is targeted for enactment by the end of this year.

“Commission III continues to accelerate the formation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill and it is confirmed to be passed no later than the DPR RI Plenary Session in December 2026,” said Habiburokhman on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

Habiburokhman has calculated the effective sitting time of the DPR RI. He said that, after deducting the recess period, the DPR RI only has around eight weeks to complete the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

“Within those eight weeks of sitting time, Commission III will hold public hearing meetings (RDPU) for gathering input, harmonisation, working meetings with the government, deliberation of the problem inventory list (DIM), first-level approval, and finally second-level approval at the plenary session in December 2026,” he explained.

For gathering public input, Commission III has already held 35 public hearing meetings (RDPU) and conducted three working visits to the regions. In addition, they have received written submissions from dozens of community elements.

“Because the remaining time is not very long, if there are still members of the public who wish to express their views, this can be done by submitting a written concept,” he said.

For Habiburokhman, the process of gathering public input is approaching its maximum because various opinions from the public have been well mapped.

He added that the majority of the public supports the formation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. The regulation is considered capable of preventing potential abuse of authority if drafted carefully.

“Most of the public strongly supports the formation of the Asset Forfeiture Bill. Most of the public also supports that this bill be drafted carefully so as to eliminate the potential for corruption in the fight against corruption, namely the abuse of power by law enforcement officials,” he said.
