Habibie's wife is on ICMI board of patrons

JAKARTA (JP): Ainun Habibie can now give her husband B.J. Habibie advice at home and at work having been elected to the advisory board of the influential Association of Indonesian Moslem Intellectuals (ICMI).

Ainun Habibie is but one of the impressive people that the ICMI congress has just elected to the board, which is chaired by B.J. Habibie. Opened by President Soeharto last Thursday, the congress named Soeharto, in a personal capacity, as chairman of its board of patrons.

The other patrons, all in a personal capacity, are:

1. Vice President Try Sutrisno

2. Umar Wirahadikusumah, former vice president

3. Sudharmono, former vice president

4. Sumitro Djojohadikusumo, a doyen of Indonesian economics

5. Azwar Anas, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare

6. Bustanil Arifin, a former cooperatives minister

7. Alamsyah Ratuperwiranegara, a former minister of religious affairs.

8. Saleh Affif, Coordinating Minister for Economic and Financial Affairs.

9. Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Production and Distribution

10. Hasan Basri, chairman of the Indonesian Council of Ulemas

The congress named Ali Yafie chairman of its 45-member advisory board. Apart from Ainun, it also has an impressive people on the list, including:

1. M. Baiquni, senior scientist and former director general of the Indonesian Atomic Agency

2. Abdul Latief, Minister of Manpower

3. Ali Alatas, Minister of Foreign Affairs

4. Subyakto Tjakrawerdaya, Minister of Cooperatives

5. Akbar Tanjung, Minister of Public Housing

6. Tungky Aribowo, Minister of Trade and Industry

7. Ginandjar Kartasasmita, State Minister of National Development Planning

8. Harmoko, Minister of Information

9. Haryono Suyono, Minister of Population

10. Ismail Hasan Metareum, chairman of the United Development Party

11. Mustahid Astari, leading member of the ruling Golkar

12. Satrio B. Joedono, the recently-removed trade minister

13. Siti HardiyantI Rukmana, Golkar leader, successful businesswoman and eldest daughter of President Soeharto.

The congress named Amien Rais, an international relations expert, as chairman of its board of experts.

Other members include human rights campaigners Muladi and Baharuddin Lopa, political scientists Amir Santoso and Soetjipto Wirosardjono.

The ICMI congress named activist Adi Sasono as secretary- general and elected Beddu Amang as treasurer.

It elected ten deputy chairmen, who include bureaucrats Watik Pratiknya and Wardiman Djojonegoro, Minister of Education and Culture, and political observer Dawam Rahardjo.

It also named six assistants to the chairman and ten department heads, among them communications expert Marwah Daud Ibrahim. (swe)
